Initial research

We conducted interviews with students from Chicago Scholars to gain more insight on what kind of features would be beneficial for them when creating the app.

Questions we had going in

How do we encourage follow through in the program part of the app?

What features would engage students more with completing tasks?

Can incentives relate back to achieving milestones in the student roadmap?

Discoveries

  • Regarding incorporating a leaderboard for a more gamified experience, we found out that while 100% of the students we interviewed stated that they are competitive, 60% of the students were not in favor of a leaderboard.

  • Students appreciate the direct help and guidance they receive from their mentors.

  • Students who were interviewed stated that they like to receive rewards.

  • Students’ core needs were help with organization, time management, and communication with their mentors for their challenges.
